John Wilson


 My Fire Service career in February 1982 at the age of 15 years old as a Junior Firefighter with Wilmington Manor Volunteer Fire Company in New Castle, Delaware. I am Life Member who rose through the ranks to Deputy Chief.  I was appointed to the City of Wilmington Fire Department in July 1989 as a Probationary Firefighter. I was assigned to Engine 3, 2, 1, and Special Operations on Rescue 1 and Squad 1 for over 22 years. I retired in February 2015 as a Lieutenant. I also am involved with the Statewide Special Operations Program, in which I serve as a team advisor for New Castle County and Sussex County. I am currently employed at the Delaware State Fire School as the Senior Instructor / Training Administrator assigned as the Rescue Programs Manager in Dover. I have also currently worked part-time for Dover International Speedway for over 26 years; Previously held the position of Infield Emergency Services Supervisor and Festival Branch Manager for Dover events. I am a 4th generation Delaware Firefighter. I joined Seaford Volunteer Fire Department in 2010 and served as a Captain, Assistant Chief, and currently Fire Chief.

Throughout my career, I have obtained over 2200 hours of training from Delaware State Fire School and Over 2000 hours from other training schools such as National Fire Academy, Texas A & M, Bucks County Fire Academy, and other training venues. I currently am National Pro-Board Certified as Firefighter 2; Fire Officer 3; Safety Officer; Rescue Technician for Confined Space, Trench, Collapse, and Rope; Fire Inspector 1; Fire Instructor 3; Hazardous Material Awareness, Operations, Technician; National Registered Emergency Medical Technician-Basic ( Was Paramedic until 2015), Blue Card Command (Trained); ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800; FEMA USAR Structural Collapse Technician. I have Associates's Degree in Fire Science- Fire Service Administration from Columbia Southern University.

My professional organizations include; the International Association of Firefighters (retired); International Association of Fire Chiefs; International Society of Fire Service Instructors; International Council of Motorsports Sciences (Associate Member); Delaware Fire Chiefs Association; Sussex County Fire Chiefs Association (currently President); Delaware Valley Fire Chiefs Association (Life Member); Member of NFPA 610 committee on guide for Emergency and Safety Operations at Motorsports Venues; National Volunteer Fire Council.
